Description

What would it be like to feel empowered as a scientist? What would it be like to leave some of your fears behind? As scientists, we excel with critical thinking, but we so often use this skill against ourselves. We tend to be incredibly self-critical. We give ourselves such a hard time! Much of this negative self-talk is what hinders us in taking daring steps in our career transitions. As a coach specialised in working with researchers and research leaders, my aim is to empower you reclaim a sense of possibilities for your career. I can help you unpick some of the challenges you are facing in your research career and support you to carve your own bold solutions. I create a safe and confidential space for you to reflect creatively about your work and life. My approach is to provide you with thinking tools that enable you to generate new ideas, switch perspectives and reveal alternatives about your career situation. Whether it is about learning to work better with supervisors/ peers/ collaborators, exploring how you may take steps towards your next professional role, revisiting your professional purpose, experimenting with how you showcase with impact your professional skills/competencies or battling with the fear of not being good enough…whatever your context, we can work together to tackle your challenges. I am a French research scientist who has worked in the USA (at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland) and the UK (The University of Sheffield). As a biologist, I have worked on the bacterial cell cycle, the malaria parasite, and early patterning in the developing brain. Since leaving the laboratory, I have supported the professional and career development of researchers from around the globe working as a training programme developer, trainer, facilitator and coach at the Centre for Stem Cell Biology, in the Faculty of Science at the University of Sheffield (UK), for Marie Curie ITN PhD programmes and many other research networks. With 16 years as a researcher developer, I have instigated many engaging programmes that support the leadership of researchers. I was a founding member and instrumental contributor of the Think Ahead team, which won the 2014 Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding support for early career researchers. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am committed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion values throughout my professional engagements. As a foreign national having worked all my career abroad, I understand what it feels like to adapt to working and living in a different country; this certainly helps me as a coach working with researchers having international careers. As a mum of 3 boys, I also understand the complexities of navigating professional life in the midst of a busy family life.
