Hello there, nice to meet you :) I'm Ayla, professional coach and Career Program Manager at Karolinska Institutet (a medical university in Sweden). I'm originally from Belgium, currently living and working in Sweden and about to move to Australia. My educational background is Bioscience Engineering, followed by a PhD in bio-informatics in blood cancer. Since 2019 I've been working at KI Career Service with the career development of doctoral students and researchers, and become a professional coach. So for this platform, my experience spans "Career Advisor" (based on my own experience of academia and research), "Career Counselor/Specialist" (based on my work at KI Career Service) and "Career Coach" (based on my coaching training and work). My view is that we all need people to take to in order to develop ourselves, clarify our future and figure out how to get there. Sometimes we have great friends, leaders or mentors to be these people for us, and sometimes we don't, but in any case there can be a benefit to talking to someone who doesn't have anything to win or lose based on the decisions you make. Someone who's future career or life does not depend on you, and can be fully in your corner. That's where a coach can be helpful. Though tips and tricks may be useful, I do not plan on telling you what to do or give you a ready-made plan, rather help you to develop your plan yourself, which is the idea behind coaching. Whether it is to figure out what you can do next in your career, how to reach a specific (career) goal or how to develop certain skills, I'm here to help you develop your vision, figure out how to achieve it and follow your progress. Coaching can work as a once-off interaction, but definitely benefits from a longer process with multiple check-ins along the way. It is up to you :)

I had two sessions with Chaperone, one to prepare a competitive CV able to make me stand out, and another to prepare for an interview. Both sessions went really well, with the advice being clear and very useful, with an emphasis on the small things which ultimately made a big difference.
